Vulture Trail

Slackpacking trail staying at Berg House Cottages in the Northern Drakensberg

Exploring the Little Drakensberg Mountains is a feat that many have never attempted before. Being over looked by most hikers this range of mountains has certainly been given less credit for its beauty than it deserves.

Together, Callum Piccione and Shaun Vorster have created a “Slack-Packing” trail that will enable the moderate-fit hiker / adventurer the opportunity to take part in exploring this almost undiscovered wilderness, as well as visiting one of the only two Vulture Colonies in the Drakensberg! The Cape and Bearded Vultures have made the Little Drakensberg cliff faces, their home. It is a sight to behold.

Trails on each day cover between 15 – 18 km of contoured trails with some steep climbs, as will as a few fairly steep descending sections (a way to conquer ones fear for heights and get the adrenaline flowing).

This trail offers the adventure traveller a chance to break away from the hustle and bustle of the city and escape to a world of peace and tranquility, big sky country and beautiful fauna and flora.

A trail that will put ones busy mind at ease and soothe ones soul.
