The Drakensberg range is characterised by basaltic buttresses, golden sandstone cliffs and steep sided forested river valleys as well as a diversity of habitat protecting endemic and threatened species of plants and animals.
Simply put, slackpacking is hiking without the schlep.
Slackpacking trails are usually multi-day point to point trails which allow the hiker to travel light carrying only what is needed for the day eg water, lunch, camera and waterproofs etc. Everything else for your overnight comfort is transported by the trail operator who also arranges your accommodation for that night.
Walk light in the foothills of the Southern Berg, with time to smell the wild flowers and take some refreshing dips in a mountain stream along the way. Each night you'll be transferred to a farmstay or chalet, where a bottle of wine can be enjoyed in front of the fire.
